Did You Know 4.0: The Media Landscape
In 2007 , Karl Fisch, Scott McLeod, and Jeff Brenman turned their ‘Shift Happens’ presentation into video and uploaded it to YouTube under the name ‘Did You Know 2.0’. This marked the start of a series of videos visualizing data. The next video, with a Fat Boy Slim soundtrack, was an instant YouTube hit, gaining over 6.5 millions views.
And now, there is ‘Did You Know 4.0’
The latest version was created together with Xplane and The Economist for their Media Convergence forum in October 2009. The video illustrates the changing media landscape, from the decline in traditional media to the continuos rise of digital, social and mobile through facts and figures. Even though most of the numbers are American centric, the video does provide insights that apply on a global scale, showing that the shift actually happens and can no longer be ignored.
In a little over four minutes, the video takes you through a world of Did You Know’s. Did you, for example, know that more video was uploaded to YouTube in last two months than if ABC, NBC and CBS had been airing new content 24/7/365 since 1948!
After four days, the video got watched over 130,000 times. Hungry for more facts and figures? At Xplane’s YouTube channel, there are over 30 videos including the first two ‘Did You Know’ videos.
