Have You Seen The Mindblowing Conversation Prism 2013?
In 2008, Altimeter Group principal analyst and author Brian Solis created The Conversation Prism with JESS3, a research-driven infographic that shows the social web. Have you seen the mind-blowing Conversation Prism 2013?
Back in 2008, the social web was a much simpler space. There were only 22 social media categories, each of which had just a handful of brands.
The Conversation Prism 2013 shows marketers a very complex social space. It has 4 additional categories with at least 6 brands in each.
Also the 2013 version is mashed-up with the interest graph with channels classified based on topic like Photos and Music.

The Opinion of Brian Solis
Brian Solis is the author of popular books Engage – The End of Business As Usual and What’s the Future of Business.
In an interview Solis stated:
“The social landscape is evolving with increasing acceleration. As you can see throughout every iteration of the Prism, the number of networks that vanish and emerge is staggering.
But more importantly, the nature and focus of how networks are used is also dramatic in its changes. In some cases, we see the move to smaller or more concentrated networks and at the same time the visual social web is becoming more pervasive.”
My Opinion?
The Conversation Prism 2013 clearly shows how mind-blowing the social web actually has become, and how extremely complex it is today.
Brands, broadcasters, publishers and agencies will need to keep re-inventing themselves, since in the social space: The only constant is change!
What will the coming 5 years show marketers in the social web? Social sites and companies will get acquired, dissolved, founded, merged and disappear.
One thing is sure to me: The next Conversation Prism will show us more SoLoMo and again several new pure players.
Short term changes are heavily overrated, but long term trends we tend to underestimate heavily.
So adaptive social planning and marketing are your way to stay.
