Who’s Winning #SochiSocial Gold? [Infographic]

As expected this year’s Wintergames get serious coverage throughout social media, but who is actually winning #SochiSocial Gold?

Throughout the Games, Hootsuite is tracking social conversations around the 2014 Sochi Olympics in this daily infographic to show what’s buzzing on social.

Overall, sentiment for the opening ceremony was more positive than negative (although overwhelmingly the response was neutral) with Russia’s stance on homosexuality receiving the most discourse.

The top 3 subject until now:

1. Irina Rodnina; the Russian figure skater who lid the Olympic Cauldron
2. Broken Olymic Ring; even days after the iopening Ceremony still a hot subject
3. Samsung; Every athlete received a free Samsung Galaxy Note 3 prior to the Cremonies

My Opinion?

Audi and BP had some great social hijacks regarding the broken Olympic ring:

But it seems that Samsung is becoming the true winner of the Olympics for brands, just by simply giving each athlete a great incentive.

But here’s something interesting: the gift comes with a catch: a supposed ban on any other device branding, iPhone or otherwise, during the opening ceremony.

Details of the clamp-down, which is said to require the Apple logo on an iPhone be physically covered so that it’s not caught on camera during the televised ceremony in Sochi…

What About You?
Do you think Samsung will become the winner of all advertisers? Or do you expect some social backfire, let’s say, during the Closing Ceremony?
