Mexican Football Team Managed By Its Fans

Recently we mentioned the very first article on ViralBlog written by our founder Igor Beuker, who announced, after his subscription to MyFootballclub.co.uk, that he proudly became, along with 50,000 other fans, the club owner of Ebbsfleet United.

With its purchase, Igor helped MyFootballClub to become the first online community to fully run a professional sports club in history. The only thing that Igor cannot control, is the daily team management.

But guess what Igor! Mexico Second division club Murcielagos takes it even further! The club has no coach; instead…. the team is fully managed by its fans!

Murcielagos FC (“murcielagos” means “bats”) was founded in 2008 and has been running with the fan-voting system in some form since at least 2010. The club launched the full “DT-Electronico”, the name given to the interactive fan-control in February of last year.

The club has no game day manager, giving the fans full control over how the side plays, who is in the side, and who comes of or goes on. There is, if our understanding is correct, a coach, but he doesn’t have any decision making power.

Check out the video below to see how it works:

Given the extent to which fans can be emotionally invested in their favorite teams, tapping that passionate enthusiasm through a crowd-managing scheme can make good sense.

Do you think a similar approach could work in the corporate world? How could your brand benefit from a taste of something similar? Let us know!

You can become a controlling fan of the club on their website, or follow them on Facebook page or Twitter.
