The Battle: Stunning Spoof Video Coke vs. Pepsi
Have you already seen the stunning spoof video The Battle? Clearly interested in the battle between the two soft drink giants Coca Cola and Pepsi, Alvise Avati directed this video to show his vision in a very creative way.
Even though the battle between the two soft drink giants showed us many ads the last 50 years, Alvise managed to create a visually great video with a twist. The ‘why’ behind this video was Alvise’s wish to create something ‘different’ from the usual battle of the brands.
We have all seen the usual computer animated commercials from both brands about one million times, on web and TV. But this video stood out for me. I feel The Battle video was created in a very original and entertaining way.
The video, starting with ‘they may take our bottles, but they will never take our taste’ shows that the focus is on the differences in taste of Coke and Pepsi.
In real life both brands show many similarities in cans, bottles, previous advertising and marketing strategies. But their taste would never be the same. And we consumers seem to have our outspoken preferences for or Coke or Pepsi.
Fake ads like these are created and shown to the public via the social web, because the creators want to tell their story.
The social web and YouTube have shown us many great user created videos the last few years. We now upload 72 hours of video to YouTube every minute!
This UGC video trend keeps raising the bar for brands and their agencies. How will their videos stand out in the clutter and be able to top the creativity of the crowd?
How did the real battle between Coke and Pepsi start?
Both introduced around 1900, Coca Cola and Pepsi were rivals from the start, both trying to dominate the soft drink market.
It seems like everyone has a preference, and as both their commercials have been innovative and renewing, but similar in the past, I guess the battle isn’t over yet.
Even though this brilliant Pepsi ad was banned years ago, it has been an inspiration for many creative people and consumers. See it below.
