Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to JK Wedding Entrance Dance. One of the best, if not the best Wedding Entrance Dance ever. The runner up spot is for Simon’s Cat ‘Fly Guy’. Simon’s Cat is back and this time he is in pursuit of a fly. Bill O’Reilly Loves Amsterdam completes this week’s top 3. Bill O’Reilly is known for his somewhat coloured view on world events, this time a Dutch reply.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

Get our ViralBlog asset: the Viral Friday Widget! By default the widget shows you the latest Viral Friday, but it’ll also show you the seven most recent postings on ViralBlog.

1. JK Wedding Entrance Dance

We already wrote about it on Viralblog, but with over 12 million views, this is our definite number one video: JK wedding entrance. On the 20th of June, Jill and Kevin danced down the aisle to the tunes of Chris Brown’s Forever and accompanied by some family and friends. Jill and Kevin than placed the video online and reached over 12 million viewers already. Online, the video can be found everywhere and even America’s popular breakfast television show Good Morning America invited Jill on their show.

The video now has its own website: jkweddingdance.comSheila Wellstone InstituteGoogle’s official blog, YouTube’s Technical Account Manager Chris LaRosa, explains how the right owners of the music are also earning money of the popular video. By place an overlay with Click to Buy links in the video, viewers can directly order the song in iTunes or at Amazon. As a result, the impact of the wedding dance video went beyond its own success: the views on the official Forever video increased, as well as an 2.5 increase of the Click to Buy ratio. This led the single to reach the # 4 position in the iTunes singles chart and the #3 position on Amazon’s best selling MP3 list, last week. So, a year after the release of the single, YouTube offered a way to make money of the music once again.

2. Simon’s Cat ‘Fly Guy’

English animator Simon Tofield brings us another episode of Simon’s cat: ‘Fly Guy’. This time the hungry cat resorts to desperate measures to catch a housefly. It’s the fifth animation film about the funny cat and every single one of the short films is immensly popular. The latest episode was uploaded just last week and has over 740.000 views already.

The animated cat is also fully integrated in the online space, next to its own website and YouTube channel, the cat recently gotten a Twitter account.

3. Bill O’Reilly Loves Amsterdam

“Don’t mess with Amsterdam!”, that’s what Robbert Niewenhuijs thought, who defends his city, after seeing an item of the American talk show The O’Reilly Factor on Fox News. Fox News pretends “fair, balanced and accurate reporting”, but The O’Reilly Factor abuses the tightened pot shops policy of Amsterdam, to criticize the city and therefore warning Americans for ‘Hussein’ Obama, who wants, according to O’Reilly, change the USA in one big Amsterdam. Enough reasons for Niewenhuijs to show the hard truth to the world, accompanied by an organ melody and statistical data: ‘Percentage of Americans that have smoked Marihuana: 40,3, percentage of the Dutch: 22,6. Drug deaths per a million: 38 in the USA, 2,4 in The Netherlands.’ The video is with more than 200,000 views and 1,100 comments already a big succes on Youtube, many Dutch and US blogs, such as BoingBoing posted the video.

4. Condoms That Generate Desire

Creative agency McCann Paris made this Durex commercial for the French TV, but the video generates a lot off buzz online and is well received by many blogs. Under the sound of ABBA a condom floats and generates every desire, at appropriate and inappropriate times. In a short time, it generated more than 134.000 views on YouTube.

5. Mattress Dominoes World Record Attempt

Having fun with a mattress, it is possible! Employees of Britains Bensons for Beds, decided to attempt a world record of mattress dominoes. The employees of the warehouse of Bensons in Tewkesbury (a small village northwest of London) apparently had some time off and did what students have done before. In all honesty, it is actually really fun to see and with more than 100.000 views on YouTube already it is quite succesful. If this viral will deliver Bensons more mattresses to be sold, only time will tell. Either way, I am thinking of arranging my own mattress dominoes with friends.
