Viral Friday: Parisian Love
Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
The theme of this Viral Friday is – what else – last Sunday’s Super Bowl. This week’s #1 position goes to Parisian Love. With a little help from Google, the language barrier is not a problem anymore. The runner up spot is for the Audi 2010 Green Car. Going green never felt better in this alternate universe. Hard Times completes this week’s top 3. It’s a Coca-Cola Super Bowl ad featuring The Simpsons. Or is it a Simpsons episode featuring Coca-Cola?
Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

1. Parisian Love
Parisian Love is Google’s first Superbowl ad ever. In the video queries flow chronologically from “study abroad paris france” through “how to impress a french girl” and “what are truffles” to “long-distance relationship advice” and finally “how to assemble a crib.” It made us cry a little bit, especially when we saw that the video was uploaded in November, but reached over 3,5 million views this week. The commercial was announced by Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt on Twitter: “Can’t wait to watch the Superbowl tomorrow”.
2. Audi 2010 Green Car
Green is hot. And in this Super Bowl commercial, Audi presents the Green Police: fighting crime, one lightbulb at a time. In a humorous way the ad shows how the Audi A3 TDI clean diesel is an easy way for people to make eco friendly choices. The video was uploaded to YouTube and got over 1.543.347 in a week’s time. The song ‘Dream Police’ by Cheap Trick was officially re-recorded and dubbed ‘Green Police’ for Audi’s ad.
3. Hard Times
Coca Cola acknowledges the impact of the financial crisis with their latest TV commercial “Hard Times”. The ad features a broke Montgomery Burns from The Simpsons and how he´s being cheered up by a Coke. The spot was promoted on Coca Cola’s Live Positively Facebook tab, offering visitors to send a friend a virtual bottle of Coke. It was shown during Super Bowl 2010, see all the commercials here. The commercial also got a lot of attention online and generated more than 1,000,000 views in a week.
4. Kia’s 2010 Big Game Commercial
The first time you enter the family of Super Bowl advertisers is always a beautiful moment. For Kia, that first time was this year’s Super Bowl. The commercial shows a gang of toys living it up in the snow, on the water and in Las Vegas. I’m not exactly sure what this has to do with the start/stop system Kia’s new Sorento features (which is the only car feature explicitly shown in the commercial), but the commercial is fun and nicely done. So far it’s been viewed 744,417 times on YouTube, where you can check the teasers too.
5. Dante’s Inferno: Go To Hell
Inspired by the real Dante Alighieri, but adapted for a new generation and a new medium, this video aired during the Super Bowl tells about a soldier who defies death and fights for love against impossible odds. The Dante in this movie gathered over 904.000 views mainly gathered through the Super Bowl after-effect. It reaches number 5 of this week’s Viral Friday.
