Viral Friday: Star Wars A Cappella Tribute

This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Corey Vidal with his Star Wars A Cappella Tribute. Together with a cappella comedy group Moosebutter Corey Vidal made this tribute to John Williams. The runner up spot is for CollegeHumor with The Matrix Runs On Windows. CollegeHumor keeps scoring high in the Viral Friday rankings with their Original Videos series. Their latest one is called The Matrix Runs On Windows. The Black Hole completes this week’s top 3. The Black Hole is a short film by Future Shorts in which a sleep-deprived office worker accidentally discovers a black hole and then greed gets the better of him.

1. Star Wars A Capella Tribute

Together with a cappella comedy group Moosebutter, Corey Vidal made the above video. It’s a tribute to John Williams. In the video Corey does a cappella versions of Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones and others. The video generated 1.8 million views since it was uploaded on YouTube two an a half weeks ago and over 700 bloggers wrote about it.

2. The Matrix Runs On Windows

CollegeHumor, part of Connected Ventures, keeps scoring high in the Viral Friday rankings with their Original Videos series. After Internet Commenter Business Meeting, Where The Hell Is Matt’s Girlfriend?, 24: The Unaired 1994 Pilot, Font Conference and “If All Movies Had Cell Phones” they now bring us The Matrix Runs On Windows. 8077 people Digged this latest CollegeHumor video. The Matrix probably would have been less exciting if the movie had to be restarted every ten minutes and the Agent Smiths inexplicably froze up during fight scenes… The YouTube version of the video generated over 300.000 views in just three days time. 3. The Black Hole

The above short film, in which a sleep-deprived office worker accidentally discovers a black hole and then greed gets the better of him, is made by Future Shorts, a short film label. The video got almost 550.000 YouTube views in two weeks time. More short films in the Future Shorts YouTube channel.

4. Toshiba Timesculpture Advert

Toshiba debuts world’s first “timesculpture” commercial, an evolution of the “bullet time” technique made famous by The Matrix. The shoot was made possible via the construction of a purpose-built camera rig, weighing over half a tonne and housing 200 Toshiba Gigashot HD camcorders. Over 20 Terabytes – 20,000 Gigabytes – of video data was used, taking over 336 continuous hours to process. In 3 days time the video got over 230.000 views and 145 blog reaction. (Source: Toshiba)

5. Mitsubishi: On Your Mark

At the Mondial de l’Automobile (the Paris Motor Show) last October, Mitsubishi launched two new models; the new Colt and the Lancer Sportbreak. To promote these two cars in Europe, Mitsubishi and LBi Netherlands teamed up and created the On Your Mark campaign (click Ireland or Netherlands to see the site in English). On the On Your Mark site, you have to choose a place in your country, placing your mark on the interactive map, to get a chance to win a Colt or a Lancer. The whole campaign is in all Japanese style and features two Japanese game show elements; Lancer Loop and Colt Curling. Also available: The Making Of.
