This week’s Viral Friday #1 position once again goes to StarCraft II. After seven years in development the long awaited Blizzard Entertainment game finally launched this week. The runner up spot is for MJ Delany. Director Morgan-Jane “MJ” Delany produced a spoof of Empire State of Mind full with cultural clichés about the Welsh city of Newport. The guys at Conscious Minds completes this week’s top 3. They were fooling around with video and stop-motion and thought it was cool to cross America doing it.

1. StarCraft II – Ghosts of the Past

StarCraft II, a game developed by Blizzard Entertainment and released last Tuesday after 7 years in development. Uploaded to YouTube on 21 July the above trailer was released as the final unlockable reward from Blizzard’s Join the Dominion! promotional site. In just seven days the trailer got viewed over 4 million times, and we are not surprised. The CGI in the cinematic trailer is mind blowing!

2. Newport (Ymerodraeth State of Mind)

Director Morgan-Jane “MJ” Delany produced a spoof of Empire State of Mind full with cultural clichés about the Welsh city of Newport. So instead of famous landmarks it’s all about the place where chips, cheese and curry makes you feel brand new, washed down with a Special Brew. The track has even been aired on BBC Radio 1 and received almost 200,000 hits within just two days on YouTube. The video is now almost two weeks live and has almost 2 million views.

3. Guy Walks Across America

The guys at Conscious Minds were fooling around with video and stop-motion and thought it was cool to cross America doing it. Money comes in handy with these kinds of projects, so they went to Levi’s, who responded enthusiastically (and financially) and provided them with the walking guy’s wardrobe. Apart from the video you can view behind the scenes material and the route on Google Maps. This is not the first video Conscious Minds has created for Levi’s, but it probably is the first getting this much attention: 1,436,902 views in 10 days.

4. Jane Austen’s Fight Club

What do you get if you situate David Fincher’s legendary ‘Fight Club’ in the classic times of Jane Austen. Exactly: Jane Austen’s Fight club. No Edward Norton and Brad Pitt, but Lizzie Bennett and Emma. But the rules remain: “The first rule of Fight Club is, one never mentions Fight Club” The video, by Relatively Badarse Productions, was uploaded to YouTube a week ago and spreading like crazy: over 700,000 views on YouTube alone already.

5. Subaru Get More G’s

Subaru has launched its new campaign to promote the new 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX and STI: Get More G’s. The TV ad spots feature Subaru’s enlisted BMX rider and Subaru Rally Team USA driver Dave Mirra taking a test drive with some regular citizens. Cause with a 2.5-liter 265-horsepower Subaru Boxer engine, a wider front and rear track, stiffer subframe bushings and a quad outlet you are pretty much guaranteed to scare the heck out of pretty much anyone. In other words: put them all together a great formula to score big on Viral Friday!
