Viral Friday: Will It Blend? – Vuvuzela

Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
ViralFriday

This week’s Viral Friday #1 position goes to Blendtec. Blendtec are no strangers to Viral Friday with their “Will it Blend?” series. This time it’s not an exclusive iPhone 4 but the annoying Vuvuzela. The runner up spot is for Life in a Day. Yet another large user generated video project by YouTube, this time in cooperation with Ridley Scott. Big Bang Big Boom completes this week’s top 3. Artist Blu got himself another viral paint video hit.

Do you want to see this week’s list from 1 to 5? Go on then, and have a look! We’d like to hear your opinion about the virals. Have fun!

Get our ViralBlog asset: the Viral Friday Widget! By default the widget shows you the latest Viral Friday, but it’ll also show you the seven most recent postings on ViralBlog.

1. Will It Blend? – Vuvuzela

Blendtec are no strangers to Viral Friday with their “Will it Blend?” series. Usually they take on products like the iPad. But this time Tom Dickson takes on the most annoying instrument from South Africa. The Vuvuzela. Obviously the Blendtec blender knows how to handle the plastic trumpet. The video is on YouTube since last Tuesday and already has almost 450,000 views.

2. YouTube – Life In A Day

After the Play project YouTube now teamed up with director Ridley Scott for another user generated video project, ‘Life in a Day‘. Life in a Day is an experimental film that invites people across the world to record a snapshot of their own lives on a single day. The documentary will incorporate footage shot on July 24 that is submitted by YouTube users from around the world. The various videos in the YouTube channel, like Scott’s own take on the project, got over 1 million views since last week.

3. Blu – Big Bang Big Boom

Artist Blu got himself another viral video hit. His latest work, or piece of art really, “Big Bang Big Boom” got 570,000 views in just a week’s time. The video shows us an unscientific point of view on the beginning of life. According to Blu it took him months of work and hundreds buckets of paint. Well, the result is stunning.

4. Red Bull – Parliament Square F1 Pit Stop

Some things you have to see to believe. Like a Formula 1 racing car taking a lap round Parliament Square in London. The guy driving it is Mark Webber with his Red Bull Racing team. The stunt was pulled to raise awareness for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The video is quite short, on the Red Bull website you can watch a longer version and read about Webber’s experience. We don’t know how many people actually watched the event take place that morning in London, on-line the stunt has already had 276,187 spectators within 9 days.

5. Apple Of My Eye

This video starts off a little cheesy, but in this case the content is subordinate to everything else (642,000 viewers will agree!). The point of this 1.5 minute long footage is that it was shot and edited entirely with the iPhone 4 and the iMovie app. This is shown in the behind the scenes footage following up on the story. Here you can see what they had to do to hold the iPhone steady while filming, and that editing on a relatively tiny screen with just your fingertips is not the easiest of tasks. Are your fingers already itching to try it?

Bonus. Holland Are Almost World Champions

As you might know; when the Dutch win something big like a football championship they like to celebrate on the Amsterdam canals (like in ’88). But would that be such a good idea with this fish in the waters?
