Angry Birds Available On PS3 This Week
“Lemme tell ya, these ain’t no ordinary finches we’re talkin’ about. These here are the Angry Birds, the ones that’s gonna kick you in the ‘nads. And they’re the ones on your side. They must be from Galapadapados, or sumptin’.” – Col. Angus, Bird Expert.
Angry Birds is a puzzle video game developed by Finland-based Rovio Mobile, in which players use a slingshot to launch birds at pigs stationed on or within various structures, with the intent of destroying all the pigs on the playfield.
Inspired by a simple sketch of stylized wingless birds, the game was first released for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch devices in December 2009. Since then over 50 Million games have been downloaded at € 0,79.
At first Angry Birds was only available at iOS-supported devices. Later the game also became available on Android-phones.
Today in the US and this Wednesday in Europe, this popular game will also be released on the PlayStation Network and PlayStation 3. And later this year also for PSP.
My Opinion?
Why write about a popular game on a marketing blog? Because last 10 years we have learned that branded online and mobile games, can lift aided brand awareness with +10-15% and preference with + 4-7%, proven in the studies done by brand tracking companies like MetrixLab.
And it does not stop here. Branded games can also built opt-in databases, loyal fans and drive purchase intent.
So to the CMOs that want to engage new target audiences or would like to boost their Brand and Business objectives: You might want to add some branded games to your 2011 and 2012 plans?
I believe in gamification, it will be a huge trend.
What About You?
What do you think about games and marketing? Do you believe in gamification?
