4 Ways To Make Your Presentation Viral
Most people create content in the hopes that someone will see it. Yet when it comes to presentations, how do you get it out to the world, or, even better, how do you make a presentation go viral?
Many of us remember presentations that have been informative, engaging, interesting, and make us want to share them – so how do you create one that will have the same effect on viewers?
Here are four of our top ways to create a presentation that catches on like internet wildfire.
1. Don’t tell a topic; share a story.
Presentations that simply share information on a topic don’t go viral.
Why? A share-able presentation offers something of value extra to the viewer – whether that’s a unique perspective, humor, or a memorable message. One of the key tips to virality is selecting a topic that will be of interest to your target audience. If your topic doesn’t appeal to your audience, there is no chance of it spreading.
Understand your target audience and how to make it best appeal to them. For example, if you are making a presentation on smoking, are you targeting smokers or non-smokers? Adults or children?
Health professionals or those that need to know health risks? What makes your presentation exciting, engaging, and something that viewers want others to see?
Once you understand your topic and audience, create a story from your chosen topic. We are naturally wired to follow storylines, which is why movies are more entertaining than long lectures or slide after slide of information.
Make your presentation into a story by creating a sense of beginning, middle, and end, repeating themes and creating a rise and fall in the action of what you are trying to communicate.
Think of viral TED talks or SlideShares – they include more than information: they include a message.
2. Put content and brevity above length.
While it’s always important to pay attention to length, the value of the content and the attention to brevity is more important than how long or short your presentation is.
Paying attention to brevity and making your point as clearly and succinctly as possible will ensure that every slide you post counts.
3. Remember: images are your friend.
Your presentation needs to appeal to verbal and visual learners. Excluding either of these audiences can seriously hamper your presentation’s ability to go viral.
A great speech becomes an excellent speech when accompanied by images that help tell the story, just as a slideshow filled only with words can go from okay to amazing once images are paired with the slides.
Words can only say – and show – so much, but images can help you tell your story more effectively.
4. Actively attract views rather than waiting for them to come to you.
Don’t rely on people to come to you and see your presentation. Anything viral needs a little push to help it get started, and presentations are no exceptions.
Pick a strong SEO-focused title and topic that is likely to catch on with your audience and spread it across social media, blogs, and other online outlets.
Making it easy to share increases its chances of going viral – but making it more likely to be seen, irresistible to share once seen, and eye-catching to those who haven’t yet seen it supremely increases your chances.
While there is never a surefire secret to virality, these tips will help you give your presentation the extra oomph it needs.
These tips follow tried-and-true methods that can be used for many different types of online media, but when it comes to presentations, paying attention to both what you say as well as how you say it is imperative.
