KnickerPicker: The Viral Online Dressing Room?

Written by Igor Beuker on January 5th, 2008 |

This item is about sexy girls, adult content, online video, e-commerce and fashion. Interested? Read along! The most widely known English translation of the Kama Sutra was made in 1883. The book gained global reputation for being the best of pornographic work. One age later, the adult industry monetized adult content on every digital channel, from internet to mobile phones.

Brands discovered fast that pretty girls and sexy babes could go viral easily and get free attention. Just take a look at Unilever’s Axe Effect. A while ago, I also wrote online video would beat the number of monthly Google searches in 2008. Yes Sir, online video is one of the important trends for 2008!

The fashion industry have been very slow online last decade and that’s an understatement. Actually fashion brands really have been ignoring trendy consumers terribly. But they are learning fast and I predict many fashion brands will start selling online in 2008.

And if fashion brands start combining pretty girls and e-commerce with trends like online video in a smart way like KnickerPicker does with it’s Online Dressing Room, fashion will go viral fast! It find it very slick, very smart and even writing about. What’s your opinion on KnickerPicker?

Steve at VKMag.com thanks for the tip!

best fashion site I’ve yet to see! Great use of technology in a fun and relevant way. The first in a new wave of fashion sites I would guess.

Without a doubt half naked women will get you some traffic. And in this case, the practice is appropriate. But I would suggest that we don’t support this as an easy answer for other brands. You don’t have to look at the top videos on youtube.com to know that porn will eventually infest everything.

Not sure I understand your point, not supporting interactive video changing rooms as an answer for fashion brands, or is it comparing a retail site with youtube.com or merely confirming that porn regretably tends to be at the front of technology innovation - tv, mobile, video, dvd, internet…..

I’m not really sure what you are suggesting either Frank?

Are you saying they are using the age old principle of ’sex sells’? If so, I have to disagree. Not with the fact that sex sells, because it does - but that it is being utilised as a cheap way to lure in viewers by KnickerPicker.

They have three women in underwear because that is what they sell and it gives people who shop online a better impression of the product they consider buying. I doubt there’ll be many men out there having a cheeky five knuckle shuffle looking at that website!

@ Daan, Frank and Jason

May I conclude that we all agree that brands should not go into porn ;-)

But that many fashion brands need to revitalize their brands by embracing digital media better?

And that this kinds of concepts/apps (like this dressing room) could be useful for fashion brands, to make e-commerce more convenient and relevant for their target audience?

Cheers

Igor
