Why Obama Will Probably Be Re-Elected

Back in 2009 we already praised Barack Obama’s brilliant brand interaction and consumer connectivity program. Today President Barack Obama is running for a second and final term during this election. A new campaign, with a new social media strategy.

Have you noticed one of these days some of your friends or colleagues were talking to an empty chair? Don’t worry! They’re probably just “Eastwooding”…. come again?!

Yes, “Eastwooding“!

On August 30th, actor Clint Eastwood appeared on stage at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, to give an  speech for the Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. The most memorable moment of the speech came when he began asking a series of questions to an empty chair alongside his podium that were rhetorically directed at President Obama.

As the speech aired on television, the US audience reacted by posting jokes about Eastwood’s mock interview on several social media, many of whom used the hashtag #invisibleobama. It even had its own Twitter parody account. The account had over 40,000 followers by Friday morning.

Meanwhile, there was still no official response from the Obama team. Until Obama suddenly jumped into the internet activity. He responded to Eastwood’s speech with this brilliant tweet below:

The fact that Obama says he’s a ‘huge’ Eastwood fan despite ‘invisible Obama’ monologue, makes it even more brilliant.

According to Mashable, some of the “biggest buzz” came out of the Republican National Convention, specifically from Eastwood’s ten-minute chair speech.

But from my social media marketing point of view, the Obama tweet is exactly the kind of content these day’s audiences want to consume: smart, short, fast with the right sense of humour.

So my prediction for this election, when it comes to smart social media marketing:

Obama for another 4 years.
