Bontrust: Increase In Currency (Money Love)

Hamburg-based agency Grabarz & Partner GmbH and production company Optix Kreation have taken the idea of multiplying money to a whole new level in a animated commercial for German financial advice company Bontrust Finance.

The lavishly produced film shows a 3D world with furniture, buildings, bridges, landscapes and clothing styles completely made out of banknotes in origami style and brings together the English pound, the American dollar and the Chinese yuan in a beautiful creative way.

Clara Schumann, whose face appeared on the 100 Deutsche Mark note, stars as the femme fatale with a British 20 Pound body seducing five dollar bill Abraham Lincoln and alluring Mao Tse Tung. The viral ad ends with the payoff: “Make your money multiply with us”. The 3D characters were created with the help of Softimage XSI and each character received an individual animation rig. With this digital skeleton Optix defined positions, rotations as well as the movements of the particulars.

The 75-second spot, released May 7, with 20+ duplicates has been viewed over 500,000 times on YouTube in two weeks, commented on hundreds of times by users on Twitter, videoportals and blogs throughout the world and rated thousands of times – with the maximum number of points. Media budget for the campaign: zero Euros.

Ralf Heuel, Head of Creation at Grabarz & Partner: “When the aim is to get people to look at advertising voluntarily and maybe pass it on to friends and acquaintances to friends and family, they have to be offered more than boring product info. Viewers have to be entertained and the brand message has to be conveyed in as spectacular a way as possible. And breaking a few taboos doesn’t do any harm either.”
