This week’s Viral Friday #1 position once again goes to StarCraft II. After seven years in development the long awaited Blizzard Entertainment game finally launched this week. The runner up spot is for MJ Delany. Director Morgan-Jane “MJ” Delany produced a spoof of Empire State of Mind full with cultural clichés about the Welsh city of Newport. The guys at Conscious Minds completes this week’s top 3. They were fooling around with video and stop-motion and thought it was cool to cross America doing it.

The runner up spot is for Improv Everywhere. Ever seen Star Wars Stormtroopers in the Ney York subway? New Spice completes this week’s top 3. After the success of the Old Spice virals, it was really just a matter of time before others would tap into it.

This time it’s not an exclusive iPhone 4 but the annoying Vuvuzela. The runner up spot is for Life in a Day. Yet another large user generated video project by YouTube, this time in cooperation with Ridley Scott. Big Bang Big Boom completes this week’s top 3. Artist Blu got himself another viral paint video hit.

To celebrate the latest instance of it’s Chrome browser Google Creative Lab teamed up with BBH and created ‘FastBall‘, a race across the internet.
The latest stable release of Google Chrome comes with Adobe Flash built-in, and as a Flash-based YouTube game ‘FastBall‘ highlights this feature.

Obviously you know that social media is an important source for consumer insights around your brand. And you told your bosses already over a year ago to stop shouting and start listening. While many brands heard about the importance of social media monitoring, only a few are actually taking it very serious. Gatorade is one of them.
The sports drinks brand teamed up with Radian6 and IBM and built a variety of data visualizations and dashboards. Using the system the Gatorade marketing department keeps track of buzz and conversations around the brand in the social media landscape, gaining valuable consumer insights to be used in the marketing, PR, media and brand strategies.

The runner up spot is for YouTube and the Guggenheim. YouTube Play gives all YouTube users the possibility to submit their best video and get it shown in the Guggenheim. Microsoft completes this week’s top 3. Kinect, the former Project Natal, is almost ready to be launched.

YouTube, HP, Intel and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation teamed up and aim to bring the very best YouTube videos from the on-line world to the off-line world. The project is called YouTube Play.
Everyone can enter the ‘competition’ and submit one video until July 31. This can be done on the dedicated YouTube section youtube.com/play.

If you’re a regular reader of this blog you already know we see the potential and rise of the social gaming industry (like Zynga shows).
Paul Verna, eMarketer senior analyst, says “the success of social gaming is part of a broader transformation to more casual, socially interactive environments”.
