Ahead of tonight’s UEFA Champions League Final in Rome, Barça’s Thierry Henry and Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs try to outdo each other in a series of competitive jokes and pranks in Reebok’s new psychological warfare viral film, released 23 May 2009, under the rhythm’s of the song “Anything you can do, I can do better”.

Henry and Giggs show a different type of competitive spirit in the ad to promote the new Reebok Instante boot both players will be wearing in the Champions League final in Stadio Olimpico.

Henry said of the shoot: “It was good fun shooting the ad. As you can see, Ryan and I don’t take ourselves too seriously – however that will be very different in Rome on Wednesday!” Giggs agrees with Henry: “Thierry and I know each other for years and are accustomed to have a little fun with each other. Wednesday in Rome, however, we will temporarily stop it!”. The advert has generated over 125,000 views (10 duplicates) on YouTube.

Not looking to be left behind, Puma have called upon Barcelona’s duo of Samuel Eto’o and Seydou Keita to show off their latest football boots, the V1.08, in their latest ad campaign, viewed 120,000 times since May 25th on YouTube. With Eto’o taking the lead role, the Cameroonian striker shows off his unique and alternative training methods that help make the striker quicker and sharper up-top.

Two years ago two other sportsmen, British McLaren Mercedes Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, also childishly tried to out do each other in a light-hearted 60-second McLaren Mercedes commercial, including a small performance by Mika Häkkinen. The advert was also accompanied by “I can do anything you can do better”, originally performed by Annie Oakley and Frank Butler.

Other commercials showing sports rivalry are Nike’s commercials The Good Life, Tiger Woods, Nike+ Men vs Women featuring Paula Radcliffe, Roger Federer, Fernando Torres, Eva Longoria and Allianz’ Ribery vs Toni advert.
