Google’s Super Bowl Commercial
Among the advertisers during the Super Bowl yesterday was a brand I did not expect to be there; Google. While Google is providing the other advertisers a place on YouTube (in the AdBlitz channel) it is strange to see Google advertising its search engine on the big screen. The ‘Parisian Love’ ad shows exactly what Google Search is about:
You might have already seen this video some time ago; it was uploaded on 19 November 2009 in the SearchStories channel (where there are six more SearchStory videos). Before airing last night the video had about 1 million views, now it has 2. Talking about viral.
On the Google blog CEO Eric Schmidt says:“We didn’t set out to do a Super Bowl ad, or even a TV ad for search.
Our goal was simply to create a series of short online videos about our products and our users, and how they interact. But we liked this video so much, and it’s had such a positive reaction on YouTube, that we decided to share it with a wider audience.”
On its Search Stories YouTube channel Google explains the thought behind the ads: “Every search is a quest. Every quest is a story. These videos show that anyone can do anything when paired with the power of search.”
