Nike says the Nike+ Accelerator will accept applications from ‘companies aiming to use Nike+ technology to create products and services that will inspire athletes across a broad range of activity and health goals including training, coaching, gaming, data visualization and quantified self’.

The program kicks off mid-March 2013 and will last three months, with the accelerator located just outside Nike’s World Headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

Mentors like Nike’s Vice President of Digital Sport Stefan Olander, TechStars founder David Cohen, and Foursquare co-founder Naveen Selvadurai will guide 10 companies in creating products using the Nike+ API and SDK. My opinion?
The Nike+ Accelerator is a real win for consumers who own the Nike+ FuelBand or other Nike+ products. These products will become even cooler for your fitness-tracking goals when the inventors of the Nike-connected gadgets roll out their ideas.

Nike already has created a great community for its Nike+ products, this collaboration can bring the community even to a much higher level.

What about you?
Do you use any of the Nike+ products? And if so, what would you like to see your fitness-tracking gadgets be able to do?

    OMG! What a smart move.

Truly disruptive innovation again, now much deeper into the value chain. Nike is really dedicated to go beyond advertising and marketing and changing the rules in the marketplace!
