Uber Launches UberEATS in Barcelona
Today, in Barcelona Uber has launched UberEATS, an on-demand food-delivery service.
Uber is always looking for ways to use technology to get people connected to their world as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
Most people know Uber as the car service which originally launched as “everyone’s private driver”. Users request a ride using the app and get picked up within minutes by a luxury town car.
Today the fast growing company hits the news almost weekly with their Uberpop service, which meets a lot of resistance of taxi drivers and enforcements of legislation, charging Uberpop as an unlicensed taxi service.
In some cities like New York City there are options like UberRUSH, an on-demand delivery product that covers logistical needs without ‘complicated and costly delivery arrangements’.
Today, in Barcelona Uber has launched UberEATS, an on-demand food-delivery service that gets users meals from the local restaurants in under 10 minutes. For this new service, Uber teams up with Plateselector, a foodie guide from Barcelona.
Here’s how it works:
1. Uber carries a selection of the best restaurants in Barcelona
2. To order UberEATS, users need to open the Uber app and tap the UberEATS icon, enter the delivery location and then select a meal on the daily menu.
3. Uber will send your request to a driver who will deliver your meal from a local restaurant.
4. The food is deliverd in less than 10 minutes
Payments are charged to the registered card, so it’s a completely cashless service.
My opinion?
I’m not a big fan of UberPop, as I believe that it really disadvantages the professional taxi driver. Some Uber Black and Lux drivers shared that same opinion with me.
But I like the way how Uber expands its business model with this new service. I’m curious how this will work in Barcelona, as I know from personal experience that Uber drivers in Barcelona often clashes with taxi drivers. (I didn’t know that Uber in Barcelona is/was only Uberpop and the driver was to scared to pick me up on Placa Catalunya.
