It’s just another day in New York City, when Red Bull’s racing team hits the streets and conducts an actual NASCAR pit stop in Times Square. The team, including driver Brian Vickers, pleasantly surprised the accidental crowd with a tire change.
Looking at most of their faces, they really were not aware of the team pulling up in Times Square with roaring engines and performing a stop in 20.6 seconds. It may not the fastest pit stop out there, but it is safe to say this is the fastest on Time Square yet.
Australia’s World Cup bid is heating up. With this great film Come Play! football fans are invited to participate and help to bring the FIFA World Cup 2018 or 2022 to Australia.
Again a branded online video that was seeded into football influencers and fans, might be the fire starter for a new movement?
I hope more marketers will understand that online video and branded content offers them great opportunities to engage a target audience cheap and fast. Last weekend Facebook’s 225+ million users have been given the opportunity to register their own personal profile URL. Instead of a random numbered ID users are now able to choose a name as they wish. It is reported Facebook now has over 3 million custom URL’s.
Not unexpected this of course brings in some fun vanity URL’s as well. However, the question rises what Facebook has planned for its next step.
With the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president of Iran a surge in protests by supporters of the pro-reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi has risen. Thousands of people went to the streets of Teheran crying fouls of the elections and clashed with the riot police, despite a ban on public protests.
If you haven’t been living under a rock you have read or heard about it or even seen the disturbing images. However, this news was barely mentioned on the CNN.com website when this was actually happening on Saturday June 12th.
Many companies are looking to create a vibrant online community to boost their brand and business. But many companies are seeing their efforts fail or get results that do not live-up to their expectations.
Does a brand need to build its own online community or does a brand need to embed their community within an existing social network? Those are questions I frequently get at marketing events.
Here are some considerations why many online communities will never grow organically, will never build brand equity or will never create loyal brand ambassadors. To simple rule is mostly: what you seed, is what you get. So, if you are ready to put a lot of effort in it, you will earn attention and ROI.
The “do we ignite our own” or do we “embed our community in an existing social network” question is rather simple to answer. It all depends on your goals and objectives.
A dedicated, skilled and experienced social marketing agency will give you the answer pretty soon. Once they have de-briefed your initial briefing, their creative strategist will soon present you a tailored answer, so if you turn to the right agency, you do not even have to worry about this question: it all depends on your goals and objectives.
Viral Friday is the weekly viral video chart of ViralBlog, showing the 5 most popular viral videos, commercials, games or user-generated videos, carefully selected and ranked by popularity, viral impact & spread.
This weeks Viral Friday #1 position goes to Joe Jonas Dances To Single Ladies. Joe Jonas, lead singer of the Jonas Brothers, dances to Beyonce’s hit song “All The Single Ladies”. The runner up spot is for the literal version of Microsoft: Project Natal. Has Microsoft finally found a way to stop the seeming unstoppable growth of Nintendo’s Wii? With the introduction of Project Natal on the Los Angeles E3 Expo it seems the next step is made. Remi Gaillard: Foot 2009 completes this week’s top 3. We’ve seen Remi Gaillard a couple of times in Viral Friday with his funny prankster videos, but we didn’t know he was such a great football player!

FC Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola did this video, with the national catalonian TV help, to motivate his players moments before the Champions League final FC Barça vs. Man UTD. Pep wanted a video that evolved the best moments of the season and mixed them with Gladiator scenes and the soundtrack of the movie…
Personally I find this item one of the most special items and videos of 2009 here at ViralBlog. It’s my honour to post the item, but all credits go to my co-worker and team mate Laurens Bianchi, he spoke about the video for about one week, searched for it and found it.
The video titled ‘Els Gladiadors Pep’ brought several Barca stars into tears before the match. And when Barcelona defeated Manchester United with 2-0, the Barça players cried again. And this time the Man UTD players did as well. But Man UTD is and stays a great team!
Later Barça players stated that they felt they had already won the final, after having seen this great motivational video. The result was that Barcelona dominated pretty much the whole game and won their second Champions League within 3 years. Should we call Pep’s action; Coaching2.0?!
eBay has won a UK court battle against French cosmetics group L’Oreal, which had claimed the online marketplace was jointly liable for trademark infringements committed by its users.
The decision is the latest in a series of legal tussles between the two firms as luxury goods groups seek to crack down on the sale of counterfeit goods.
L’Oreal, which owns brands Lancôme and Yves Saint Laurent, lost a similar case in France last week, and is appealing against a defeat in Belgium.
However, it won two cases in Germany that involved fake perfumes and products without wrapping.
In March this year I wrote an article on ViralBlog called: Using A Creative Flashmob As A Viral Element. In this article, I stated that the flashmob is a one time brand experience which doesn’t cause a good brand recall. I guess I was wrong. The following video keeps spinning in my head all day. MC Hammer touched a great viral strategy in order to promote his hew TV show on A&E TV: Hammertime.
Over 450.000 views in 5 days can be mentioned a viral success. The great thing about this viral is that it isn’t just about the video.
Obama showed how his smart social strategy contributed to win the elections. But how can social media help to win elections in a country like Iran, where freedom of speech or expressing opinions and ideas, is not without fear for punishment…

Facebook was cut off temporary in Iran, leading to accusations that authorities were trying to muzzle one of the main campaign tools of reformists opposing President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in June 12 2009 elections.
The main pro-reform candidate, Mir Hossein Mousavi, is seeking a strong turnout from young voters and has used Facebook to try to mobilize support. See his Facebook page here.
